"Sexpectation vs. Reality Documentary": The Hidden Truth
Introduction
Having watched the documentary "Sexpectation vs. Reality," This is where the dark and hidden truth behind social media is gradually revealed, and how many of us use it to do work and earn enough money to escape the gnawing stomach caused by poverty—poverty that causes branch-by-branch problems such as the entry of many of us into pornography, selling themselves for money, which for them is a great way to keep living. The growing number of people entering and being drawn into this lifestyle is concerning. This is simply an indication of a severe lack of proper focus and attention. Furthermore, the government plays a critical role in addressing these types of issues, but the government itself consistently falls short in doing so: the aforementioned problems demonstrate the government's excessive negligence in accommodating its constituents. This is why it is understood that we are fighting against the country's long-standing problems and have not been able to win because of negligence and a lack of sufficient care to solve them.
In a latest survey, the Philippines climbed three spots to tenth place among countries. However, the country's inclusion in the survey does not indicate whether it should be happy or cared for. Because only the Philippines ranks tenth in terms of the number of Filipinos watching and the time spent on PornHub. According to the well-known pornography site on the internet, it is estimated that the average time spent by Filipinos staying and watching obscene images/videos on Pornhub is about 11 minutes and 31 seconds, boosting the country to the top of a recent survey, which was followed by Japan, France, and the Netherlands (Severo, 2021).Furthermore, the large percentage of women who watch and have access to this site is notable, reaching 52 percent while men got 48 percent. The increase in the number of Filipinos watching and accessing these types of websites in the country is extremely concerning, particularly for children who are frequently exposed to social media.I was even more concerned because, during the pandemic, many of us, particularly children, were not permitted to leave our homes or go outside, which resulted in all transactions being conducted online, including children's education, which has shifted to an online format. In fact, it is estimated that during the enhanced community quarantine in the months of March and May 2020, the number of children who experienced sexual abuse and child exploitation increased by 246.6%, reaching at least 202,605 reported cases, which is higher than the 76,251 reported cases in 2019 (Severo, 2021).
On the other hand, pornography is still illegal in our country, despite the fact that many of us prefer and are encouraged to do it as a source of income. But what motivates them, or many of us, to pursue this line of work or income? In the Philippines, for instance, what is referred to as "cybersex" under the Anti-Cybercrime Act is illegal. According to the official Gazette website (n.d.) dedicated to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Cybersex is defined as any intentional interaction, up keep, or regulate, whether direct or indirect, of any lustful expositions of genital area or sexual intercourse using a computer system in return for money for favor or consideration (Official Gazette, n.d)
Things should be done..
In order to address this, it is important to note that development and assistance to the population are focused on reducing poverty. If the government had enough programs to assist every struggling family or individual, many of us would not be drawn into the filthy and frightening world of pornography. Furthermore, if the government had sufficient and correct allocation of funds, as well as a holistic approach to preventing the proliferation of pornography that affects not only a few but the majority, including the youth, it would not have resulted in more pain. Which is a reality that many of us are currently experiencing.
Furthermore, the study found that excessive viewing and interaction with internet pornography can cause significant changes in the human brain and alter the human body. It also causes changes and the emergence of a variety of symptoms, such as problematic sexual behavior and addiction. Furthermore, it causes social anxiety through depression, poor body image, flashbacks, eating disorders, and a variety of other issues that can lead to death (Reward Foundation, 2016). Moreover, according to UNICEF, the exposure of young people to the world's pornograpy is leading to poor mental health, objectification, sexism, violence, and other negative outcomes (Unicef, 2021).
Conclusion
Despite the fact that pornography is still a hot topic in our country. Everyone has a different opinion and attitude toward this issue, but it is impossible to ignore the negative impact it can have on young people at such a young age. Furthermore, it is difficult to persuade each individual to enter this field. On the one hand, despite our diverse viewpoints, it is still a reality that deserves to be discussed, a reality that many of us here live in. Especially in today's technological age, where it is easier to multiply and spread. It is even more vital that we understand the positive and negative effects it has on us and our society.
